Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door – Shroom Cake

I have a confession to make, everyone: I am not a mushroom fan. Although I’m starting to come around, I still take my pizza sans shrooms and try to avoid the occasional portobello burger that comes my way. I can’t really pinpoint when I started to dislike them, but it might have something to do with those less than appetizing cans of cream of mushroom soup that would find their way all too frequently to my childhood dinner table. Whatever the case may be I’m sure you can imagine that developing this recipe was pretty challenging given my fungi aversion. Truly, the thing that got me through it was the fact I’d been sitting on dried candy cap mushrooms for the better part of a year!

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door – Koopa Buns

As if I needed an excuse to create more food from the Paper Mario series, April is #MarioMonth for us Fandom Foodies and I just happen to be hosting! These Koopa Buns have been on the back burner (steamer?) for a lonnnggg time. I attempted them a few times last year to abysmal results that still manage to haunt me. Back then I was trying to make a basil dumpling dough with a way too sweet mango chutney filling… needless to say it was one of the worst things I’ve ever made. That being said I stepped back up to the plate this month to give them another try from a different angle and I’m actually pretty happy this time.

Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door – Couple’s Cake & Snow Bunnies

Valentine’s Day is here again and with it, another lovely video game recipe. I’ve had this one on the back burner for a long time, but unfortunately the conditions never seemed to be quite right to make it. What conditions you may ask? Why, the weather conditions of course! That’s right, this week I’m going to show you all how to cook with snow!

Yoshi’s Cookies – Yoshi Cookies

I really enjoyed Kirby’s Epic Yarn so when they announced a new ‘yarn’ game, I was pretty pleased. To take such a cool aesthetic and mix it in with the great gameplay of SMW2: Yoshi’s Island can only make for a fun gaming experience. To celebrate the release of Yoshi’s Wooly World, I thought I might try some of the iconic Yoshi Cookies from one of the green dinosaur’s first games way back on the NES. I mean, where else do you get to see Mario dressed up like a chef? I hope you enjoy them!

Paper Mario – Peach Tart

I haven’t missed it, have I?! As some of you may know, August is National Peach Month; and even though it’s in the eleventh hour, I wanted to put something together in its observance.

Originally I was endeavoring to do something based on Princess Peach, as it seemed all too appropriate. Unfortunately, most of the in-game foods related to her are in the form of the strawberry festooned birthday cakes she bakes for Mario and friends; we’ll just have to put that on the back burner for now :]

While searching in-game Mario food for inspiration, I was reminded of the overwhelming quantity of recipes from the Paper Mario series. Sure enough, there were a few peachy edibles among the ranks, so I decided on this one from Super Paper Mario (as well as TTYD): Peach Tart.

So this one’s for you, Princess, even if only in name alone.
