Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Energizing Honeyed Apple

Completed recipe of the energizing honeyed apple from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild video game

Fall’s here and that means it’s apple picking season! Although there’s no denying that freshly picked apples are delicious on their own, here’s a fun little recipe to help accent your apple affinity (not to mention refill some of your stamina wheel!)

I made a whole slew of Breath of the Wild recipes earlier this year and this was actually one of that bunch. However, unlike the others. I felt like the Energizing Honeyed Apple would be more appropriate for the fall so I’d been squirreling it away until now.

When I played the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild back in March, this recipe was part of one of the first quest lines I encountered. It’s called Koko’s Specialty and it involves Link going around collecting ingredients for a little girl named Koko in order for her to cook meals for her younger sister, Cottla. It’s very sweet and once you fulfill all of her ingredient requests she reveals that she hopes to be an actual chef someday when she grows up (good luck to you!)

In the game, the Energizing Honeyed Apple is made by simply combining and apple and courser bee honey in a cooking pot as the description above implies, but for this recipe I wanted to take it just a little bit farther. I decided to go for a honey caramel sauce that you could dip apple wedges in, and the results were dangerously addictive.

Compared to my other posts, this probably seems like a speed run, but the recipe is just that easy so I hope you’ll give it a try! Remember to leave any comments, questions, and/or suggestions in the box below! Happy Fall!

+ Honey Caramel Sauce +

makes about 1 pint

ITEMS
Ingredient Amount
Brown Sugar ¾ cup
Butter 1 stick (4 oz)
Heavy Cream 1¼ cup
Honey ½ cup
Lemon Juice 1 tsp
Salt ½ tsp

EQUIP
  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk and/or rubber spatula

WALKTHROUGH

1) This recipe comes together in a flash. The first step is to add the brown sugar (dark would be good here, but light is fine) and a stick of butter to a medium saucepan over medium high heat. Stir the pot as the butter melts and begins to dissolve the sugar.

2) Eventually, the mixture will come to a foamy boil. Let the butter and sugar cook for 2 more minutes and use a whisk to stir the pot constantly to prevent burns.

3) Once those two minutes are up, pour the heavy cream into the pot. Don’t worry if it bubbles and sputters a bit to begin with, as long as you keep stirring, it’ll subside within a few seconds. Continue to stir the caramel until fully melted and completely smooth then add in the honey, lemon juice and salt.

4) Bring this mixture to a boil one last time while stirring and let it reduce for another three minutes. Remove the caramel sauce from the heat and let it cool down and thicken up before you start dipping any apples (this stuff is hot!) Enjoy!
